Take the Ferry to Portsmouth’s Seawall Festival

Hampton Roads Transit is encouraging festivalgoers to take the Elizabeth River Ferry between Norfolk and Portsmouth this weekend to enjoy both the Portsmouth Seawall Music Festival and Harborfest. The ferry connects Waterside in Norfolk with both North Landing and High Street in Portsmouth, site of the 45th Annual Seawall Festival taking place from 6 to 11 p.m. today and 2 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

To avoid expected congestion and limited parking for Harborfest, Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is encouraging the public to take transit to and from Downtown Norfolk on June 7-9.  

HRT Partners with YMCA to Offer Student Freedom Passes

Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is partnering with the YMCA of South Hampton Roads to offer high school students a Student Freedom Pass to make the most of summertime. The pass provides riders 13-17 years old with unlimited rides on HRT’s bus, ferry and light rail services in Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach at no cost to the pass holder.

Elizabeth River Ferry Service Fully Restored in Time for Memorial Day Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) today announced that Elizabeth River Ferry service will be fully restored effective Friday, May 24 at 5:30 a.m. following completion of the City of Norfolk’s construction of a temporary access ramp to the ferry dock at Waterside.

Riding Transit is Free on Juneteenth

Riding Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) buses, light rail, ferry and paratransit will be free on June 19 in commemoration of Juneteenth.  This HRT tradition – now in its fifth year and predating Juneteenth as a state and federal holiday – honors the longest-running African American holiday with free-fare access to HRT’s comprehensive transit solutions throughout Hampton Roads.

The VB Wave Trolley Returns to Virginia Beach for 40th Year of Service

The Virginia Beach Wave trolley and shuttle, operated by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), returns for its 40th year on Sunday, May 12. Once again, the VB Wave will accept mobile ticketing to make it convenient to board the distinctive sky blue and sand-colored trolley buses on three routes serving the Virginia Beach Oceanfront resort area.
