What is a GoPass

A GoPass allows you to ride any HRT bus, ferry, or light rail route as many times as you want within the period of the GoPass. Customers may ride our Express service with a GoPass, however, an upgrade fee may be required.

What is GoPass365

The GoPass365 remains active for 365 days. It’s purchased by colleges, employers, and consortiums to help with the transportation needs of students and employees, or as an incentive or benefit. Get complete details on GoPass365.

What is a Trip

All other fares shown are Single-Trip fares. A single trip is defined as the point at which the passenger boards the vehicle until the vehicle reaches the next published terminal point. After reaching the terminal point, all passengers must exit the vehicles. If the passenger desires to use the same bus for the next portion of his or her trip, he or she may re-board to begin the next trip.

Patrons eligible for the Discounted Fare are encouraged (but not required) to obtain a Discounted Fare ID. Please visit our Discounted Fare ID page to review the application and ID process.

Who are considered children or youth?
Children and Youth shall be defined as persons 17 years old and younger. Children and Youth may receive free access either while accompanied by a fare paying adult or by using a Student Freedom Pass. In the event a child/youth is neither accompanied by a fare paying adult nor has a Student Freedom Pass, the child/youth may be required to pay the posted Discounted Fare. In all cases, the Student Freedom Pass will expire two months after the student’s expected high school graduation date, or the 18th birthday, whichever is later. Any exceptions to this policy will be handled on a case by case basis. Any customers requesting free or Discounted Fare must present a State/Government/Military ID with qualifying age upon request.
Who is eligible for Paratransit fares?
The Paratransit fare shown in the table is available for customers who present an HRT Paratransit Photo ID.
How do I redeem an IOU?
If any of HRT’s Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) in Hampton Roads fail to give proper change, it is programmed to issue an IOU. Any valid IOU up to $5 can be redeemed Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at one of our Transit Center locations. Claims must be accompanied by a valid IOU or receipt. Any claim over $5 will be issued by check and mailed. For more information, please call HRT Customer Service during normal business hours.
Money-saving tip
If your one-way trip to and from your destination does not require you to transfer — use multiple bus/light rail/ferry modes — it’s cheaper to pay two single-trip fares ($2.00 + $2.00 = $4.00). Remember though, for just another fifty cents (a 1-Day GoPass for $4.50), you can take any HRT mode (except Express routes) along whatever route HRT serves that day as much as you want. That’s a good deal for fifty cents. HRT can get you there.
