Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will offer free fare on Transit Equity Day, which falls on Monday, Feb. 5.
It is the second year HRT will honor the date with free fare, applicable on all bus, light rail, ferry and paratransit services.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Stepping on board one of Hampton Roads Transit’s two new ferries is something that has been about three years in the making.
“It’s a blast. I enjoy having the new boats,” HRT Shoreside Engineer Ben Foster said. “Just operating it and figuring out all the new systems.”

NORFOLK, Va. — This month, Hampton Roads Transit and Naval Station Norfolk are celebrating one year since the launch of the Base Express. This FREE service began on December 4, 2022, and has carried nearly 32,000 sailors over the last year.

The inaugural State of Transit: Transit Means Business Summit was held on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Hub757, located at 6801 Bridgeway Dr., and was made in partnership with Hampton Roads Transit, Williamsburg Area Transit Authority, and Suffolk Transit.

NORFOLK, Va. — A popular bus route on the Southside is now even easier to catch!
The Hampton Roads Transit’s (HRT) Route 20 buses travel between Downtown Norfolk and the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Starting Monday, Director of Communications Amy Jordan said people can hop on an HRT bus every 15 minutes during peak weekday hours, which is between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Jordan said more than 2,000 people use that route every day.
