Riding Transit is Free on Juneteenth

Riding Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) buses, light rail, ferry and paratransit will be free on June 19 in commemoration of Juneteenth.  This HRT tradition – now in its fifth year and predating Juneteenth as a state and federal holiday – honors the longest-running African American holiday with free-fare access to HRT’s comprehensive transit solutions throughout Hampton Roads.

The Virginia Beach Wave trolley and shuttle, operated by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), returns for its 40th year on Sunday, May 12. Once again, the VB Wave will accept mobile ticketing to make it convenient to board the distinctive sky blue and sand-colored trolley buses on three routes serving the Virginia Beach Oceanfront resort area.
