What We’re Doing

We’ve wrapped a light rail vehicle and two buses in a unique winter design. All season long, we’ll host a variety of events for you and your loved ones to ride the winter blues away.

How to Take a Ride

Spot the Winter Wonderland Train from now until February 15, 2026! Purchase a light rail ticket at any of our light rail stations, then take a ride when it comes by your stop. Rides on the light rail are always $2 one-way, $4.50 all-day for adults and free for children with a fare paying adult of Student Freedom Pass.

Tracks on Tracks: A Soul Groove Social & Rhythm Experience

Break out your best bell bottoms for this special event! Join Hampton Roads Transit and Hot 91 WNSB as we transform our Winter Wonderland Train into a dance party. DJ Bee with Hot 91 will spin tunes at this after dark dance!

The groove train will run from Newtown Road to EVMC/Ft Norfolk and back starting at 5pm. The train leaves promptly at 5:20pm from Newtown Road, but space is limited, so you’ll want to arrive early! If you’re closer to one of our other stations, feel free to hop on there instead. Just follow the normal light rail schedule for the train leaving Newtown at 5:20pm! The soul train will do a second run from EVMC/Ft Norfolk promptly at 5:56pm and arrive back at Newtown Road at 6:22pm.

Looking for something to do after you ride the Soul Train? Groove down to any of Downtown Norfolk’s restaurants and bars accessible from MacArthur Square, Monticello, or Freemason Street stations. It’s Restaurant Week! Enjoy one-of-a-kind specials at participating restaurants and bars.

Tickets are $4.50 and available day-of at any of our Tide light rail stations.

Read & Ride on the Tide: Galentine’s Edition

Bring your favorite book and your bestie for an evening on the Winter Wonderland Train!

We’re joining forces with the Norfolk Public Library. The ride will start at Newtown Road Light Rail Station, and we’ll stop at Freemason Street Station, walk a short distance to Cure Coffeehouse and grab a warm beverage or snack before heading back to Freemason  to continue our Read & Ride.
