NORFOLK, Va. — Books and supplies? Check. How about a free transit pass?
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is hosting two upcoming Student Freedom Pass sign-up events to help teens get around this upcoming school year.
HRT’s Student Freedom Pass provides riders ages 13-17 in Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach with unlimited rides on HRT bus, ferry and light rail service. Best of all, there’s no cost to the passholder.
HRT is hosting two events where students can sign up for passes:
Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Hampton High School, 1491 W. Queen St. in Hampton.
Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 4-7 p.m. at Hampton Roads Transit, 509 E. 18th St. in Norfolk.
Parking is available for visitors on Armistead Avenue, directly across from Chick-Fil-A.
Students will receive their pass at the events and learn how to plan and navigate their trips.
“The Student Freedom Pass from HRT is a great way to introduce teens to transit, educate them on how to get around, and provide them with safe and efficient transportation throughout the school year,” said William E. Harrell, HRT’s President and CEO.
