Board Members Scheduled to Host Bus Trips
NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is providing free fares on Earth Day, April 22, on all bus, light rail, ferry and paratransit services.

“Going fare-free to celebrate Earth Day is an opportunity to thank our riders while encouraging new riders to leave their vehicles behind and try transit,” said William E. Harrell, President and CEO.
This year, members of HRT’s governing board, the Transportation District Commission of Hampton Roads, will be hosting round-trip rides to meet the public in their cities. They are scheduled to ride as follows:
- Norfolk: Commissioner Andria McClellan, a Norfolk City Council member: Route 1, meet at Downtown Norfolk Transit Center at 11:45 a.m.
- Virginia Beach: Commissioner Amelia Ross-Hammond, a Virginia Beach City Council member: Route 36, meet at Corporation Lane bus stop near Constitution Drive at 10 a.m.
- Chesapeake: Commissioner Don Carey, a Chesapeake City Council member: Route 13, meet at Robert Hall Blvd. bus transfer stop at 11 a.m.
- Portsmouth: Commissioner Tony Goodwin: Route 43, meet at the bus stop on Crawford Street between County and King streets at 11:45 a.m.
- Hampton: Commissioner Jimmy Gray, Hampton Vice Mayor: Route 115, meet at Hampton Transit Center at noon.
- Newport News: Commissioner August Bullock: Route 112, meet at Newport News Transit Center at 11:30 a.m.
