Snow Routes Activated Monday February 2

Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will implement its Snow Route service on Monday, February 2.

In accordance with the Snow Route plan, HRT will provide hourly bus service on designated routes from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM. The Tide light rail and Elizabeth River Ferry will operate every 30 minutes from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

HRT’s paratransit service, OnDemand ridesharing and the Base Express shuttle at Naval Station Norfolk will not operate due to ice and snow on secondary roads and residential streets.

HRT is anticipating a return to regular service on Tuesday, February 3, though a final decision will be announced on February 2 as conditions are surveyed.

Customers may find sidewalks near HRT stops covered with ice and snow, in many cases blocking pedestrian access.

Snow routes are similar to regular bus routes, however, snow routes run hourly and only on the main roads.  In some cases, snow routes combine the paths of two or more regular routes.  Snow routes do not go into neighborhoods or some transfer centers (such as Wards Corner or 81st & Orcutt).  In most cases, the route number for a snow route is the regular route’s number preceded by a “2.”  Northside snow route numbers consist of the regular route number preceded by a “5.”  Snow routes begin at 10:00 PM and end no later than 8:00 PM, M – Sat.  Some trips may end earlier than 8:00 PM so check Gohrt.com or call Customer Service. Snow routes do not run on Sun.  See the chart below for snow route boarding locations that are different from those on regular routes.

Snow Routes will only serve the following transfer locations: Newport News (NNTC), Hampton (HTC), Downtown Norfolk Transit Center (DNTC), Crawford Street, Duffy’s Lane, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Liberty & Seaboard, Newtown Road, Norfolk General, Robert Hall, Shore & Pleasure House, Victory Crossing Shopping Center, and Parks & 19th.
