Access to public transportation changes lives.

High school and college students tell us that being able to utilize the bus and light rail is a game changer. Every year, thousands of high school students in Hampton Roads take advantage of HRT’s Student Freedom Pass to ride the bus, light rail, and ferry free of charge. They can use the pass to get to and from school to part-time jobs, or to hang out with friends.

College students are using public transportation to access campuses across the region. One student who is nearing graduation told us that without access to public transportation she would not have been able to go back to school.
