Snow routes with limited schedules planned for Monday
NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will end all services early on Saturday, Jan. 31 due to anticipated winter weather.
HRT also will not operate all day on Sunday, Feb. 1 due to expected snow, icing, wind and potential flooding. On Monday, Feb. 2, HRT is scheduled to implement a modified snow route schedule with limited service.
Service ends early on Saturday
In anticipation of adverse conditions, most HRT services will end no later than 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The last westbound Tide light rail train will depart Newtown Road Station at 2:05 p.m., arriving at EVMC/Fort Norfolk Station at 2:31 p.m. The last eastbound train is scheduled to depart EVMC/Fort Norfolk at 2:11 p.m., arriving at Newtown Road Station at 2:37 p.m.
The last Elizabeth River Ferry trip will depart Waterside Ferry Dock at 2:45 p.m. Paratransit, OnDemand Ridesharing and Base Express service at Naval Station Norfolk will end at 3 p.m.
Transit center information booths and all administrative facilities will be closed. The Customer Service Call Center will close at 3 p.m.

Northside

All services suspended on Sunday
All HRT services will not operate on Sunday. This includes bus service in six cities, light rail, ferry, Paratransit, OnDemand Ridesharing and Base Express.
Transit center information booths, administrative facilities and the Customer Service Call Center will be closed.
Limited snow routes planned for Monday
HRT will implement its Snow Route service on Monday, Feb. 2. Under the snow route plan, HRT will provide hourly bus service on designated routes from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. The light rail and ferry will operate every 30 minutes from 10 a.m.–8 p.m.
Paratransit service, OnDemand Ridesharing and Base Express will not operate due to expected ice and snow on secondary roads and residential streets.
Snow route times will be evaluated over the weekend, and any updates will be announced on Sunday.
Snow routes are similar to regular bus routes but run hourly and only on main roads. In some cases, snow routes combine the paths of two or more regular routes. Snow routes do not go into neighborhoods or some transfer centers (such as Wards Corner or 81st & Orcutt).
Snow Routes will serve only the following transfer locations: Newport News Transit Center (NNTC), Hampton Transit Center (HTC), Downtown Norfolk Transit Center (DNTC), Crawford Street, Duffy’s Lane, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Liberty & Seaboard, Newtown Road, Norfolk General, Robert Hall, Shore & Pleasure House, Victory Crossing Shopping Center, and Parks & 19th.
In most cases, the route number for a snow route is the regular route’s number preceded by a “2.” Northside snow route numbers consist of the regular route number preceded by a “5.”
Snow routes are as follows:
- Northside Snow Routes: 261, 501, 506, 512, 513, 514.
- Southside Snow Routes: 201, 202, 203, 206, 208, 209, 210, 212, 213, 214, 215, 220, 221, 223, 245, 247, 257, 261.
Most regular routes and services will be suspended. The following routes will not run in accordance with the Snow Route Plan:
- Northside: 102, 103, 104, 105, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 115, 118, 403, 405, 414, 415, 430, 964, 921.
- Southside: 4, 5, 9, 11, 18, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, 33, 36, 41, 44, 50, 58, 960, 966, 967, 972, 980.

The Customer Service Call Center will be available from 9 a.m.–8 p.m. on Monday. The Downtown Norfolk, Hampton, and Newport News transit center information booths will be open from 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m. The Silverleaf transit center will be closed. ID card processing and Lost and Found will be unavailable.
HRT is anticipating a return to regular service on Tuesday, Feb. 2 if conditions warrant. Customers may find sidewalks near HRT stops covered with ice and snow, in many cases blocking pedestrian access.
