NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will end all services much earlier on Saturday, Jan. 24 due to the impending winter storm.
In addition, HRT will not operate all day on Sunday, Jan. 25 due to expected icy road conditions. On Monday, Jan. 26, HRT will operate on a modified snow route schedule with limited service.
Service ends early on Saturday
In anticipation of adverse conditions, most HRT services will begin to wind down much earlier than normal on Saturday.
The last westbound Tide light rail train departs Newtown Road Station at 7:20 p.m. and arrives at EVMC/Fort Norfolk Station at 7:44 p.m. The last eastbound train departs EVMC/Fort Norfolk at 7:11 p.m. and arrives at Newtown Road at 7:37 p.m.
The last Elizabeth River Ferry trip will depart Waterside ferry dock at 7:45 p.m. Paratransit and OnDemand Ridesharing will end at 7 p.m. The Base Express will operate on its regular schedule.
Transit center information booths and public access to all administrative facilities will be closed. The Customer Service Call Center will close at 8 p.m.

Sunday services suspended
All HRT services will not operate on Sunday, Jan. 25. This includes bus service in six cities, light rail, ferry, Paratransit, OnDemand Ridesharing and the Base Express at Naval Station Norfolk.
Transit center information booths, public access to all administrative facilities, and the Customer Service Call Center will be closed.
Snow routes in effect Monday
On Monday, Jan. 26, HRT will operate on a modified snow route schedule with limited service.
HRT will provide hourly bus service on designated routes from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. The Tide light rail and Elizabeth River Ferry will operate every 30 minutes from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m.
HRT’s Paratransit service, OnDemand ridesharing and Base Express will not operate due to ice and snow still on secondary roads and residential streets. Transit service is subject to change based on storm intensity. Customers should expect delays.
Customers may find sidewalks near HRT bus stops still covered with ice and snow, in many cases blocking pedestrian access. Light rail stations and ferry docks will be treated throughout the storm.
Snow Routes deviate from normal route patterns. Therefore, real-time bus arrival times will not be available on gohrt.com, third-party apps, or from the Customer Service Call Center. Customer Service representatives will only be able to provide estimated arrival times.
Snow Routes will only serve the following transfer locations: Newport News Transit Center, Hampton Transit Center, Downtown Norfolk Transit Center, Crawford Street, Duffy’s Lane, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Liberty & Seaboard, Newtown Road, Norfolk General, Robert Hall, Shore & Pleasure House, Victory Crossing Shopping Center, and Parks & 19th.
Snow Routes are as follows:
- Northside Snow Routes: 261, 501, 506, 512, 513, 514,
- Southside Snow Routes: 201, 202, 203, 206, 208, 209, 210, 212, 213, 214, 215, 220, 221, 223, 245, 247, 257, 261,
Most regular routes and services will be suspended. The following routes will not run in accordance with HRT’s snow route plan:
- Northside: 102, 103, 104, 105, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111,115, 118, 403, 405, 414, 415, 430, 964, 921.
- Southside: 4, 5, 9, 11, 18, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, 33, 36, 41, 44, 50, 58, 960, 966, 967, 972, 980.

The Customer Service Call Center will be available from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. The Downtown Norfolk, Hampton, and Newport News transit center information booths will be open from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The Silverleaf transit center will be closed. ID card processing and Lost and Found will be unavailable.
HRT is anticipating a return to regular service on Tuesday, Jan. 27, though a final decision will be announced on Jan. 26 as conditions are surveyed.
