With limited parking on campus, HRT is encouraging fans to take advantage of free rides on the Tide light rail in addition to free parking at park-and-ride lots for this and all home games this season. Here are some additional tips to ensure your trip goes smoothly:
- Park and ride. Park-and-ride lots are available at the Newtown Road and Military Highway Stations. The City of Norfolk is also offering free parking in the MacArthur North and South garages. The parking lot behind the EVMC/Fort Norfolk Station is available for Saturday games only. The two closest stations to the stadium are the NSU Station (coming from the west) and the Ballentine/Broad Creek Station (coming from the east).
- Arrive early. HRT will have extra staff at park and ride lots and Tide light rail stations to help patrons make their way safely to the stadium. Fans are advised to arrive early and be patient, as trains are expected to be at capacity. The Norfolk Tides also have a home game on Saturday, September 6 – meaning light rail trains will be carrying passengers to both games.
- Use caution. Additionally, HRT is asking riders to use caution when approaching the train station and when boarding and exiting the light rail. Be safe around tracks. Use designated crosswalks and sidewalks to reach the station and never stand on or near the tracks. Once at the station, always stand behind the red rumble strips.
- Consider leaving early. Once the game is over, fans are expected to head to the light rail stations almost immediately. Consider leaving just a few minutes early to avoid lines. Be sure you are standing in the line or on the platform traveling in the direction you need to go. Adhere to instructions from HRT staff, law enforcement and other officials, and be respectful to fellow fans.
Free rides on the Tide run 2 hours before and 1 hour after each game, and trains will run every 15 minutes.
