June 5: Ribbon-cutting event to showcase new shelters for ferry passengers

WHAT: Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) and community leaders cut the ribbon on one of three new passenger shelters for the Elizabeth River Ferry.

WHEN: Thursday, June 5 at 11 a.m.

WHERE: High Street Ferry Landing, Portsmouth.

WHO: HRT President and CEO William Harrell, Chief Engineering & Facilities Officer Sibyl Pappas, and Portsmouth Mayor Shannon Glover.

WHY: In time for Harborfest, the Seawall Festival and the busy summer season, HRT unveils three new ferry shelters designed to resemble cargo ship containers, reflecting the working waterfront along the Elizabeth River. The shelters offer shade and cover for passengers as they await the next ferry as part of a continued investment by HRT to enhance the customer experience. This event features the High Street shelter; the others are at North Landing in Portsmouth and Waterside in Norfolk.

Media are invited to take a ride on the ferry following the event.
