NORFOLK, Va. – Free HRT Rides on Earth Day, April 22
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is providing free fares on Earth Day, April 22, on all bus, light rail, ferry, paratransit, and OnDemand ridesharing services.
It’s a great way for Hampton Roads residents to try transit at no cost. To plan your trip, please visit HRT’s system map.
Once again this year, members of HRT’s governing board, the Transportation District Commission of Hampton Roads, will be hosting round-trip rides to meet the public in their cities to learn how public transit serves your community. They are scheduled to ride a round-trip route as follows:
- Chesapeake: Councilman Les Smith will meet riders at 10:40 a.m. at Robert Hall Transfer Center on Robert Hall Boulevard for an 11 a.m. departure, returning at 11:36 a.m. on Route 6.
- Hampton: Councilwoman Hope Harper will meet riders at 10:20 a.m. at the Hampton Transit Center, 2 W. Pembroke Ave. for a 10:47 a.m. departure on Route 109, returning at 11:26 a.m.
- Newport News: Councilman Marcellus Harris III will meet riders at 10:20 a.m. at the Newport News Transit Center, 150 35th St., for a 10:45 a.m. departure on Route 106, returning at 11:35 a.m.
- Norfolk: Councilwoman Mamie Johnson will meet riders at 10:15 a.m. at the Downtown Norfolk Transit Center, 434 St Pauls Blvd., to board Route 4, returning at 11:30 a.m.
- Portsmouth: HRT Commissioner Tony Goodwin will meet riders at 10:10 a.m. at County and Crawford, 601 Crawford St., to board Route 45, returning at 11:34 a.m.
- Virginia Beach: Councilwoman Dr. Amelia Ross-Hammond will meet riders at 10:20 a.m. at Tidewater Community College’s Virginia Beach campus at the corner of Student Avenue and Michael Labouve Boulevard. Riding Route 26, the group will return at 11:24 a.m.
