HRT services to end early today, start at 8 a.m. Thursday

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will end services early Wednesday night due to expected icy conditions.

All bus, light rail, ferry, paratransit and OnDemand ridesharing services, as well as the Base Express serving Naval Station Norfolk, will end at approximately 8 p.m. The Tide light rail’s last full eastbound trip will depart from EVMC/Ft. Norfolk Station at 8:11 p.m. and go out of service at Newtown Road. The last full westbound trip will depart Newtown Station at 8:05 p.m. and go out of service at EVMC.

The Elizabeth River Ferry’s last scheduled departures are from High Street at 7:30 p.m., North Landing at 7:35 p.m. and Waterside at 7:45 p.m. Paratransit and OnDemand ridesharing services will be suspended at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, all services will begin at 8 a.m. Buses will not necessarily begin service at the normal start-points. Instead, buses will begin service at the stop closest to where the route/trip would normally be as of 8 a.m. Updated information will be available online at www.gohrt.com or by calling 757-222-6100.

The following bus routes will not run their morning work trips on Thursday:

Routes 112 (5:15 a.m. trip departing Riverside Medical and 5:31 a.m. trip departing J Clyde & Harpersville), 403, 405, 414, 415, 430, 921, 961 (4:45 a.m. and 5:25 a.m. trips departing Downtown Norfolk Transit Center), 964, 966, 967, 972, and 980.

The Elizabeth River Ferry will begin Thursday from High Street in Portsmouth at 8 a.m. with 30-minute service. Paratransit will be available for first pick-ups at 8 a.m. The Base Express serving Naval Station Norfolk will start at 8 as well. Bookings for OnDemand ridesharing in Newport News and Virginia Beach will be available starting at 8.

HRT’s Customer Service Call Center will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Customers are advised to expect delays and impromptu detours throughout the day Thursday.
