HRT Partners with YMCA to Offer Student Freedom Passes

NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is partnering with the YMCA of South Hampton Roads to offer high school students a Student Freedom Pass to make the most of summertime.

The pass provides riders 13-17 years old with unlimited rides on HRT’s bus, ferry and light rail services in Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach at no cost to the pass holder.

To get their pass, teens are invited to visit the Blocker/Norfolk YMCA at 312 W Bute St. in Norfolk on Saturday, June 1 from 2-4 p.m., where they can sign up for a free summer YMCA membership as well as a Student Freedom Pass.

“We’re proud of our partnerships with community organizations like the YMCA of South Hampton Roads who do so much to support our youth,” said William E. Harrell, President and CEO of HRT. “With the convenience and mobility of transit to complement the Y’s programs, sports and activities, this collaboration will help students stay active and engaged during the summer.”
