Celebrate Cycling During Bike Month in May

NORFOLK, Va. — May is Bike Month, and TRAFFIX Commuter Options, in conjunction with Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), is ready to help you learn more about the region’s cycling resources with events and activities throughout the month.

Take Your Bike on Transit

With bike-ready buses, The Tide light rail and Elizabeth River Ferry, HRT can get you where you want to go without the hassles of driving and parking – saving you money while getting exercise.
HRT passengers are encouraged to take their bicycles on any mode of transit at no additional charge. Every HRT bus has a bike rack for two bicycles on the front of the bus and riders can stow their bikes before boarding. For light rail and ferry, just walk on your bike and look for bike storage racks.
To learn more about riding HRT with your bike, including a video with step-by-step instructions for all three modes of transit, please visit https://gohrt.com/2024/04/may-is-bike-month/.
Bike to Work Week will be celebrated May 13-19, with Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17. It’s a great time to get out of your car and change your commute for a day.
