HRT and TRAFFIX Invite Commuters to Discover Vanpooling This ‘Vanuary’

NORFOLK, VA – Hampton Roads Transit, in partnership with TRAFFIX Commuter Options, is inviting commuters to discover the joy of vanpooling this “Vanuary.”

Through vanpooling, commuters take some of the stress out of getting back and forth to work. The TRAFFIX vanpool program works in partnership with Commute with Enterprise, which will lease a late model van or SUV to registered groups of 7 to 15 people. The TRAFFIX Vanpool Assistance Program will help cover the cost of insurance, fuel, maintenance, and more, and the passengers split the balance.

Commuters can start their own vanpool or join an existing one. Vanpool commuters participating through Commute with Enterprise will receive a $500 monthly stipend from TRAFFIX. Commute with Enterprise leases only require a 30-day cancellation notice, so there is no long-term commitment. Through the Van Start program, TRAFFIX will assist with some of the startup costs and if you lose a member of your vanpool, the Van Save program will help cover the cost.

Another benefit of being part of a vanpool is the Ride Home Rewards Program. When the unexpected happens, TRAFFIX will help coordinate a ride home with Uber or taxi service at no added cost to the participant. Whether it’s a family emergency, unscheduled overtime, or a sick child at school, TRAFFIX has it covered.

Active-duty Navy, Marine, and civil service members are also eligible for extra benefits through the Transportation Incentive Program (TIP). The TIP pays up to $300 per month for vanpool and HRT’s other modes of transit, including bus, light rail, and ferry.
