Elizabeth River Ferry Service Suspended Until Further Notice

At approximately 10:30 a.m., the captain of Elizabeth River Ferry V approached the High Street Dock in Portsmouth a little too quickly and made contact with the seawall. There was one passenger on board, but no injuries were reported. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified.

The ferry was taken out of service so crews could assess the damage. Service is expected to resume when a replacement vessel is ready. In the interim, a shuttle is available to transport customers between ferry docks.

“We understand this is inconvenient for our customers,” said William Harrell, President and CEO of Hampton Roads Transit. “But we want everyone to know we are doing everything we can to get the ferry back in service as soon as possible.”
