HRT Responds to Incident on Tide Light Rail

NORFOLK, VA – Hampton Roads Transit is responding to a shooting that occurred around 10:40 p.m. on December 28, in Downtown Norfolk, on a Tide light rail train. According to Norfolk Police, a 14-year-old was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

In response to the incident, passengers and the public can expect to see increased security.

HRT employs an internal and professional security team, comprised of transit security administrators and transit security officers for all bus, light rail, and ferry service. HRT security team professionals have an extensive background in security, enforcement, and emergency response, including years of uniformed service within area police departments and the U.S. military.

In addition to the HRT security forces, HRT contracts with a private security firm and partners with the Norfolk Police Department to provide additional security on light rail trains and at light rail platforms.
