NORFOLK, VA – It’s Discover Transit Month and Hampton Roads Transit, in partnership with TRAFFIX Commuter Options, is inviting you to try transit.
Last year more than 7 million people across the region took advantage of public transportation to get to work, school, appointments, and entertainment venues. Whether you’re a seasoned commuter or trying transit for the first time, now is the perfect time to try the bus, light rail, ferry, trolley, or paratransit.
There are many benefits of taking public transportation, including creating a more sustainable environment, decreasing traffic congestion, saving money on gas and vehicle maintenance, and improving your health by walking to and from the bus stop.
You can commute differently by first parking your car at one of the many conveniently located Park-and-Ride lots located throughout the region. Then, take the bus or light rail the rest of the way or meet up with a vanpool and enjoy the ride to work with colleagues. Either option is a great way to save money and build community. TRAFFIX app users can also earn points to redeem for rewards by logging your trips in the app.
The TRAFFIX team will be hosting an event on Wednesday, September 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Patrick Henry mall. Commuters can learn about our expanding 757 Express, the TRAFFIX Rewards Program, or how to start a vanpool.
“We hope you’ll join us as HRT and TRAFFIX work together to support Discover Transit Month and celebrate the advantages of public transit.”
– William Harrell, President and CEO of Hampton Roads Transit
