All Aboard the Winter Wonderland Train
NORFOLK, Va. — Not a fan of winter? Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is adding some seasonal cheer.
HRT is introducing its Winter Wonderland train, a specially wrapped Tide light rail vehicle emblazoned with a design embracing the season.
The Winter Wonderland train will be unveiled at a free public event on Friday, Nov. 14 from 4-6 p.m. at MacArthur Square light rail station and outdoor pavilion in downtown Norfolk. The event will feature activities for kids from community organizations, giveaways, character appearances, special musical performance from students at the Governor’s School for the Arts, sweet treats and more.
Maybe a brief train ride is all you need to chase the doldrums of winter. Rides on the decorated train are $2 each way. Kids always ride free with a paying adult.
Registration is not required but preferred. Register online here.
A winter photo backdrop will also be decorated for the season on the MacArthur Square Station platform. And two HRT buses will mimic the design of the light rail train, extending the wintry greetings to the streets.
The decorated vehicles will operate through mid-February, giving customers a festive experience as they get around this winter. Light rail trains and buses are regularly wrapped, but this is the first time in recognition of a season.
The campaign was paid for through a Commuter Assistance Program (CAP) grant from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
