HRT to Implement Snow Routes for Saturday, Feb. 22

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is pleased to reinstate service with Snow Routes on Saturday, Feb. 22 as the region continues to recover from this week’s snowstorm.

Under its Snow Route schedule, HRT will provide hourly bus service on designated routes from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. The Tide light rail and Elizabeth River Ferry will operate every 30 minutes from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

However, HRT’s paratransit service, OnDemand ridesharing and the Base Express shuttle at Naval Station Norfolk will not operate due to ice and snow still on secondary roads and residential streets.

HRT is anticipating a return to regular service on Sunday, though a final decision will be announced on Saturday as conditions are surveyed.

Customers may find sidewalks near HRT bus stops still covered with ice and snow, in many cases blocking pedestrian access. Light rail stations and ferry docks have been cleared of snow and treated.

Snow Routes deviate from normal route patterns. Therefore, real-time bus arrival times will not be available on gohrt.com, third-party apps, or from the Customer Service Call Center. Customer Service representatives will only be able to provide estimated arrival times.

Snow Routes will only serve the following transfer locations: Newport News (NNTC), Hampton (HTC), Downtown Norfolk Transit Center (DNTC), Crawford Street, Duffy’s Lane, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Liberty & Seaboard, Newtown Road, Norfolk General, Robert Hall, Shore & Pleasure House, Victory Crossing Shopping Center, and Parks & 19th.

Snow Routes are as follows:

Most regular routes and services will be suspended. The following routes will not run during Snow Routes:
