NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will continue to suspend all services on Friday, Feb. 21 due to continued weather conditions that include icy roads, high snowbanks, inaccessible bus stops and unplowed secondary roads.
Suspended service affects all systemwide bus routes, paratransit service, the Tide Light Rail, Elizabeth River Ferry, OnDemand ridesharing and the Base Express at Naval Station Norfolk.
HRT will announce service details for Saturday service on Friday.
“Safety is our top concern, and we realize this decision will inconvenience our customers, particularly those who rely on us to get to work,” said William E. Harrell, President and CEO. “We are doing what’s in the best interest to protect our customers, operators, staff and assets while allowing the six cities we serve time to plow and treat roads. It is simply unsafe to provide service on Friday, particularly given the anticipated refereezing of snow and ice, but we are working hard to be ready when conditions improve.”
HRT on Thursday continued clearing transit centers, transfer stations, light rail platforms and ferry docks. Most bus stops, however, remain inaccessible due to snow volume.
Also on Friday, transit center information booths, public access to all administrative facilities and the Customer Service Call Center will be closed.
