Norfolk Grand Illumination

Due to the Norfolk Grand Illumination Parade, from approximately 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2024, customers are advised to expect heavy delays due to traffic in the downtown Norfolk area. Customers are advised that the Routes 6, 8, and 45  will be unable to service the Waterside Loop (Waterside, Civic Plaza Station, MacArthur Station, Bank & Plume) during this event. Customers will have to board and disembark at the Downtown Norfolk Transit Center located at 434 Saint Pauls Blvd.

In support of the event, Hampton Roads Transit will be running enhanced service for the Elizabeth River Ferry and The Tide light rail. The Tide light rail will operate 10-minute frequency, 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM, and 30-minute frequency 10:00 PM – midnight.  From 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM The Tide light rail will not service the Harbor Park Station. The Elizabeth River Ferry will operate 15-minute frequency 4:00 PM – 11:45 PM. Other activities such as the Harbor Half-Marathon will occur during the same time frame. So, we advise all of our customers to check their specific route via our Real-Time Bus Information. Customers need simply open a browser on their phone and navigate to gohrt.com. Then, enter the stop number in the box labeled “My Stop”. Once submitted, the phone will display the next three arrival times for the bus (or buses) serving that stop, including on time, early and late readings, if applicable. Customers may also get this information via the automated phone system by simply calling (757) 222-6100 and saying or entering the stop number.
