Review of Light Rail Engineering Underway 30 Percent Design Presented October 3
Norfolk – Hampton Roads Transit will present the results of the 30% engineering designs and projected capital costs for an extension of The Tide light rail to Virginia Beach Town Center on Monday, October 3, 2016.
Currently HRT and its partners, the City of Virginia Beach’s light rail team, and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, are thoroughly reviewing all cost and engineering assumptions to reach a common understanding among all principles of the project’s scope.
The design plans and support documents in the 30% plans were developed by HRT and its consultant, Light Rail Partners, a consortium of STV and RK&K, two leading engineering firms. The work began in June 2015.
In addition to the engineering plans, the latest work also completes the remaining environmental work necessary to advance the project.
