New Military Circle Transfer Center Opens Wednesday

Norfolk, VA –Hampton Roads Transit will open a newly rebuilt passenger center at Military Circle Mall on Wednesday that promises an improved customer experience.

The rebuilt transfer station has five new shelters, a wider passenger platform and benches that offer customers more comfort than the old station.  Other upgrades include improved lighting and heightened security.  The new solar-powered cameras will allow on site observation.  The new station meets all American with Disabilities Act requirements and is accessible to all.

The new center is a considerable improvement over the previous facility which had few and insufficient shelters, broken pavement, dead or dying trees and no security cameras.

The new station is located in the parking lot of Military Circle Mall and services local bus routes 15, 20, 23 and 25.

“We value our customers and are excited to provide them with a more comfortable experience,” said William Harrell, president and CEO of Hampton Roads Transit. “Updating this center is fitting with our goal to become the most customer-driven and efficient transit agency in the Commonwealth.”

Construction, by Conrad Brothers, Inc., took two months at a cost of $355,943.
