New Fares Starting Oct. 1

Hampton Roads Transit will be implementing the next phase of the fare increase effective, Sunday, October 1, 2017.

In February and March of 2014, Public Hearings were held to allow the public to learn more about the proposed fare increase and to give comments with regards to their concerns/issues. In March 2014, The Transportation District Commission of Hampton Roads (TDCHR) approved the fare increase, effective July 1, 2014.

From the discussion and comments received from the public hearings, HRT decided to roll out a new fare increase in two parts. The first would include a $.25 increase in the one-way fare, rather than the proposed $.50. Other fares were adjusted to half of the initially proposed increase and no increase at the time for Paratransit.

Hampton Roads Transit is now ready to initiate the second phase of the initial fare increase – effective October 1, 2017. Following is the list of the new fares that will be implemented:

Hampton Roads Transit will be holding six public meetings in August and September for customers to get more information on the fare increases, the purpose of the increase, and ask questions with regards to the increase.
