Return to Regular Service

In support of Governor Northam’s order, effective Friday, May 29, 2020, all persons over the age of 10 using HRT services (bus, light rail, ferry) and facilities such as transit centers must wear a protective face covering.  On Sunday, June 14, 2020, buses and light rail will resume regular service. Bus passengers must continue to board via the rear doors.  Service on the Elizabeth River Ferry will remain on a reduced frequency consistent with a winter service schedule. Effective Wednesday, July 1, 2020, customers on all modes of transit will be required to pay fare.  Customers are encouraged to avoid the rush and buy their tickets as early as possible.

Upon return to regular service, the following routes will be modified to improve adherence and performance:

Route 4 Church Street – Schedule adjustments will be made.

Route 5 Willoughby – Schedule adjustments will be made.

Route 6 South Norfolk – The current detour routing on Route 6 will become permanent.  Route 6 travels along Atlantic Avenue.  The deviation along Broad Street to Campostella Road has been eliminated.  Schedule adjustments will also be made.

Route 15 Military Highway – The timepoint at Robin Hood Road/Almeda Avenue will be changed to Military Highway/Norview Avenue.  Schedule adjustments will also be made.

 Route 18 Ballentine Boulevard – Schedule adjustments will be made.

Route 23 Princess Anne Road – The timepoint at IKEA will be eliminated and the Sunday schedule will be adjusted to improve transfer connections at Military Circle between Routes 15 and 20.

 Route 24 Kempsville Road – Schedule adjustments will be made.  An earlier trip will be added from Robert Hall to Pembroke Monday through Friday.

Route 25 Newtown Road – The terminal point (end of line) in Virginia Beach will be changed from Tidewater Community College to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.  Schedule adjustments will also be made.

Route 27 Northampton Boulevard – Schedule adjustments will be made.

Route 29 Great Neck Road – Schedule adjustments will be made.

Routes 30, 31, and 35 (VB Wave & Bayfront Shuttle) – There will be no service on these routes this summer.

Route 44 Midtown – Route 44 will be extended to Downtown Norfolk Transit Center (docking at Bay A1) Monday through Saturday until 7PM.  The Route 44 double loop around Starmount Parkway will be eliminated.  Route 44 will travel along Portsmouth Boulevard to Starmount Parkway to Jolliff Road back to Portsmouth Boulevard.

Route 50 Academy Park – Schedule adjustments will be made.

Route 58 Bainbridge Boulevard – Schedule adjustments will be made.

Route 64 Newport News/Smithfield – Two morning trips and one afternoon trip will be adjusted to support the 6am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

Route 101 Kecoughtan Rd. – The 3:40 pm trip departing Newport News Shipyard (North Gate) will be changed to 2:40 pm to support the 6am–2:30 pm shift at NNS.

Route 103 Shell Rd. – An early morning trip will be added departing Hampton Transit Center at 4:45 am to support the 6am shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

Route 111 Jefferson Avenue/Patrick Henry Mall – The weekday 6:54 am trip from Thomas Nelson Community College will be adjusted to improve the connection at Fishing Point.

Route 117 Phoebus – The current detour routing on Route 117 will become permanent.  Route 117 travels from Hampton Transit Center (HTC) to the VA Hospital to Mallory to County back to HTC.

Route 121 Williamsburg/Newport News – The morning and afternoon trip traveling between Williamsburg and Newport News Shipyard will be adjusted to support the 6am–2:30 pm shift at NNS.

Route 403 Buckroe Shopping Center – The morning trip will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

Route 405 NNTC/Buckroe Shopping Center – The morning and afternoon trip will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

Route 414 NNTC/Patrick Henry MallThe afternoon trip will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

Route 415 NNTC/Denbigh – The afternoon trip will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

Route 430 Denbigh Fringe – The morning and afternoon trips will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

MAX Route 961 Norfolk/Hampton/Newport News – The 4:00 pm trip departing Newport News Transit Center (NNTC) Monday through Friday will no longer service Evelyn T. Butts due to low ridership.  Passengers destined for Evelyn T. Butts should utilize the 3:45 pm trip from NNTC.

The first two morning trips departing Downtown Norfolk Transit Center and the afternoon trip departing Newport News Shipyard (North Gate) will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS.

MAX Route 966 Virginia Beach/Newport News – The morning and afternoon trips will be adjusted to support the 6am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

MAX Route 967 Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Chesapeake/Newport News – The morning and afternoon trips will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).

MAX Route 972 Virginia Beach/Newport News – The morning and afternoon trip will be adjusted to support the 6 am–2:30 pm shift at NNS (No change from the Essential Service Plan schedule).
