VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will operate the VB Wave trolley in support of the 52nd annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend along the Oceanfront from Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 27.
With three trolley routes, the VB Wave makes it easy to explore the 35-block event without the hassles of parking.
- Route 30 along Atlantic Avenue will operate about every 15 minutes from 8 a.m.-2 a.m., except on Saturday, when service begins at 2 p.m. due to the Neptune 8K race on Atlantic Avenue and the Neptune Festival Grand Parade.
- Route 31, serving the Virginia Aquarium and campgrounds, will operate about every 20 minutes from 9:30 a.m.-11:10 p.m. on all three days.
- Route 35, connecting the Oceanfront with points along Shore Drive, will operate about every 30 minutes from 8 a.m.-12:30 a.m.
Delays are possible due to events along the Oceanfront on Saturday. The lineup for Route 31 at 3rd Street and Atlantic Avenue will be moved to 19th and Parks until after 2 p.m. Oceanfront buses will also see delays due to increased traffic for the entire Neptune Festival. HRT is prepared to add trolleys during peak periods as demand warrants.
Plan ahead and pay with GoMobile
It’s easy to pay for fares to keep moving all weekend with one-day or one-way passes:
- GoMobile app: Customers can download the HRT GoMobile app in the Apple App Store or Google Play, then create an account with an email address or phone number. Next, create a virtual card and add money to it with a credit or debit card. If traveling as a group, each person will need their own virtual card. When boarding the trolley, hold your phone screen below the yellow-and-blue scanner and wait for the beep.
- Bank card or mobile wallet: Just use a debit or credit card or mobile wallet as you would in a store. Simply tap the validator upon entry and the system will charge the appropriate amount. HRT accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.
- Cash: Exact change is accepted. Insert cash or coins when boarding.
- Pre-paid tickets: Available at select retail locations, including nine Sunsations stores, KOA Campground, Virginia Gift Shop and Ocean Wave Gift Shop.
Learn more about GoMobile to plan your day. HRT fares are $2 one way and $4.50 for all-day travel. Children 17 and under ride free with a fare-paying adult. Certified discounted fare holders, Paratransit-eligible riders, and those with a Student Freedom Pass have their own fare. Visit the fares page on gohrt.com for details.
