HRT Launches ‘Transit is for Everyone’ Campaign

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is launching a multi-media advertising campaign to remind the region about the vital role transit plays in connecting people and places.

“Transit is for Everyone” tells the story of how public transportation connects thousands of people every day across three modes of travel – bus, light rail, and ferry. Anchored by a cinematic-style video, the campaign follows a job seeker heading to an interview, a father and son taking in a baseball game, and a woman exploring a new destination.

The campaign begins Oct. 1.

“The goal is to educate the public about available transit options in the six cities we serve while reinforcing that public transportation is indeed for everyone,” said Alexis Majied, HRT’s Chief Communications Officer. “Even if people don’t ride transit regularly, they probably rely on someone who does. Whether it’s getting to work or school, heading to a medical appointment, visiting friends and family, or enjoying a local event, transit helps people get where they need to go. It’s a shared connection that brings communities together.”

The campaign includes a dedicated webpage featuring the video with links to HRT’s home page and system map.

“Transit is for Everyone” is funded through a $40,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Rail & Public Transportation (DRPT).

November to February are typically the slowest months for ridership. HRT successfully applied for the grant to increase ridership with strategic marketing initiatives during less busy months.

With the video as its focal point, the campaign will appear in digital ads, social media, broadcast television and streaming services between Oct. 1-Nov. 30 and again Jan. 1-31. “Transit for Everyone” also includes three printed materials promoting bus, light rail and ferry services.

The campaign was produced in-house by HRT’s Marketing and Strategic Communications team.
