Suspension of Gas Tax Would Mean Less Funding for Transit

UPDATE: On June 17, 2022, the Virginia General Assembly passed the state budget which did not include the proposed gas tax holiday.

Thank you for your continued support of public transportation.

Suspension of the gas tax would mean less funding for Public Transit. Although the suspension will only last a few months, the long-term financial impact to public transit will be felt for years. Specifically, statewide transportation funding will be cut by $437 million over the next fiscal year to pay for the gas tax suspension. HRT stands to lose over $2.8 million in state funding.
