TRAFFIX Works For All Of Us

TRAFFIX is putting green commuting on the map through its efforts to promote transportation alternatives that help to protect the environment.
TRAFFIX
Established in 1995, TRAFFIX is a Transportation Demand Management program that helps decrease traffic congestion during peak travel times by giving commuters options other than driving alone to work. Working with area employers and military installations, TRAFFIX staff help implement parking management plans, the formation of carpools, vanpools, telework options and many more. Alternatives help not only reduce traffic congestion but reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Hampton Roads service area includes the cities and counties that comprise Southeastern Virginia, including the Eastern Shore, as well as Williamsburg Area Transit Agency and Suffolk Transit service areas.

TRAFFIX also offers guaranteed rides for commuters experiencing unexpected emergencies, and has a ride-matching and rewards program that provides discounts to popular area businesses for commuters who log their ride-sharing trips.

Participants in TRAFFIX programs use a trip-logging app that allows them to earn rewards and to receive real-time data on how their green commutes are having a positive impact on the environment. Available for Android or Apple devices, the app also shows users how much money they’re saving in commuting expenses, and calories burned for walking instead of driving or riding.

Last year, TRAFFIX helped nearly 12,000 registered commuters enjoy smoother, hassle-free commutes. Other recent environmental success stories, as detailed in the report:
