Be Alert, Be Informed, Be Involved and Be Prepared

Your safety and security is a top priority at Hampton Roads Transit we're working hard to create a safe and secure environment and riding experience for you by stepping up security in all areas of operations.

Transit Facilities | Riding HRT | Young Riders | Emergency

We have taken steps to ensure the safety and security of our transit system such as:

• Installing cameras on all buses and ferries in our fleet, transportation centers and facilities.
• Conducting emergency exercises with local first responders.
• Increasing security staffing and visibility.
• Making extra patrols and sweeps around the facility and monitoring the remote video camera system.

In addition, HRT is involved in the "Is that your bag" program. We have also formed relationships with local police departments and their officers work extra duty for us, as well as local, state and federal agencies to provide the highest level of security for you.

HRT has and continues to take steps to improve and enhance its safety and security. While we are working to keep you safe, we ask that you do the same. There are simple safety measures you can take while at transit facilities, park and ride lots and while riding HRT to keep you and other riders, especially young riders, safe.

You are a vital part of our Safety and Security Team and we rely on you to be our "eyes and ears." By practicing a few safety measures such as waiting in well-lit areas, being aware of your surroundings and notifying HRT security in the event of an emergency, you will be able to help prevent crime. As customers, we want you to remember to be alert, be informed, be involved and be prepared.
