Bus Safety Campaigns
At HRT, we work hard each day to provide a safe environment for our passengers and employees. Safe driving habits are a top priority for us — for example our drivers are prohibited from using cell phones or playing the radio while driving. While those safety measures are in place, people in their personal cars may be distracted while driving (ie: texting). A reoccurring concern for us is rear-end collisions.
These accidents often happen while buses are stopped at traffic lights or while picking up customers at authorized stops. Rear-end collisions put everyone in danger – our passengers, operators and the people in cars and trucks. Accidents also slow down our service and make it difficult for us to keep our bus fleet healthy. We analyzed our incident report from 2014 and the data showed that the majority of our rear-end accidents occurred between rush hour times, 7:00-10:00 a.m. and 3:00-6:00 p.m. We are testing and measuring a strobe light and reflective combination on the back of buses to see if our accidents are reduced.
The second area of concern is customer safety. You may start to see these interior cards (click the images to enlarge) on buses, reminding you of things to be mindful of when traveling with us. Always remember, bus safety is for your safety.
